TNT seek quick end to respective quarterfinals series
27-September-2017 04:07
Owning two championships with an eye on a third in the same season is as good a reason as any for San Miguel Authentic Charlie Lindgren Womens Jersey Beer guard Chris Ross to feel confident heading to his team’s final-esque clash with Barangay Ginebra.
Too bad this delicious matchup is part of the first course, not the main serving.
San Miguel and Ginebra collide at 7 p.m. at Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday, right after the 4:15 p.m. game [www.authenticcanadiensonline.com] between TNT and Rain Or Shine, as the PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals continue.
All Ginebra and TNT need is to win their respective games to advance to the next round.
But especially in Ginebra’s case, that’s way easier said than done.
The Beermen are on a mission to complete the coveted Grand Slam, and they’re facing the same team they demolished in the Philippine Cup finals earlier this year to bag the title.
To San Miguel’s advantage, it is facing a Ginebra squad that’s been wobbly lately.
The defending Governors’ Cup champions have lost 2 of 3 games after rattling off 7 wins in a row. Their last game was forgettable — a 29-point beating at the hands of TNT.
San Miguel is far from a finished product, too. Prior to losing to Meralco in their Bob Lilly Youth Jersey last elimination-round game, the Beermen strung together 3 straight wins, a streak that began with a 107-103 win over Ginebra. They started the conference 4-3.
"I've always had confidence with my team. We're very confident going in," the Beermen's Ross said in an article posted on the PBA website.
"There's never any pressure. This is just basketball. All of us are playing http://www.nikecowboysjerseys.com/brice-butler-jersey-for-sale-c-47.html basketball for a long time. We've all been in this situation."
Not the same can be said of TNT and Rain Or Shine, teams that are being guided by new coaches this season.
As far as big-game scenarios go, TNT has a bit of an edge, having been in the finals of this year's Commissioner’s Cup before losing to San Miguel.
While the KaTropa boast having Jayson Castro and Kelly Williams, the departure of Ranidel de Ocampo and Larry Fonacier, and the growing roles of young guns RR Pogoy and Troy del Rosario under the guidance of first-year coach Nash Racela make this essentially a different team.
TNT is on a 4-game winning streak and is favored over Rain Or Shine, but the Elasto Painters can find inspiration in No. 8 seed Blackwater, which shocked top-ranked Meralco to force a rubber match in their series.
Also, Rain Or Shine dealt TNT a 105-73 pounding the only time they met this conference, although TNT didn't have Castro, Rosario and Pogoy.
"We are playing a different TNT team from the first meeting," said Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia.
"They are playing great team basketball and we feel it's a good matchup for both teams," he added. "We just have to want it more tomorrow before we go another game."
